EMPOWER 2024, NISH Thiruvananthapuram

The EMPOWER conference is an annual technical event, organized with the objective of bringing together all stakeholders in the assistive technology sector, which includes researchers, user organizations, industries as well as policy makers. Three teams from ProDex were selected as finalists for Empower 2024 held at NISH Thiruvananthapuram out of 100+ teams nationwide.

The team working on a wearable device for the hearing impaired was selected as the winner of the competition.

The team developed a wearable device for the hearing-impaired community with a wristband that detects emergency sounds from the environment and displays them on the screen, along with haptic feedback for loudness in the form of vibrations. The product was praised highly for its user-programmability and extensive features like Date and Time, customizable brightness and loudness settings, and also the fact the entire thing was done using edge computing
